Self Blessing Ritual

This ritual should be performed during a new moon, and should not be used frivolously. This is a very powerful blessing to be used as an introductory ritual for those searchers of the Pagan path, and later on to banish negative influences which may be hovering around a person's energy.

In a quiet, peaceful place, assemble:1/4 teaspoon of salt1 oz. of wine 1/2 oz. of water (rain, stream, or sea water, preferably)white candle The result of this ritual is a deep feeling of peace, calm & purpose. Do not rush this ritual. Allow enough time for meditation. This ritual is performed skyclad.

TO BEGIN:
Sprinkle the ground with salt in a circle around where you stand.
Light the candle.
Allow yourself to feel the warmth & energy being raised.
Mix the wine with the water.
Say the following prayer:

BLESS ME MOTHER, FOR I AM YOUR CHILD

(dip the fingers of your dominant hand into the wine/water mixture and annoint the eyes).
BLESSED BE MY EYES THAT I MAY SEE YOUR PATH.

(annoint the nose)
BLESSED BE MY NOSE, THAT I MAY BREATHE YOUR ESSENCE.

(annoint the mouth)
BLESSED BE MY MOUTH THAT I MAY SPEAK OF YOU.

(annoint the heart)
BLESSED BE MY BREAST,THAT I MAY BE FAITHFUL IN MY WORK.

(annoint the loins)
BLESSED BE MY LOINS, WHICH BRING FORTH THE LIFE OF

HUMANKIND, AS YOU HAVE BROUGHT FORTH ALL CREATION.

(annoint the feet)
BLESSED BE MY FEET, THAT I MAY WALK IN YOUR WAYS.

For anyone who believes that sources should be credited whenever possible, this ritual was first published by Z. Budapest in 1979 in her Holy Book of Women's Mysteries, Part I. She intended it to be used before doing any magickal work, not just during a new moon. There are a few differences in the wording which aren't important, and she doesn't specify exact amounts of salt, water or wine. This is a very beautiful simple ritual with an incredibly calming effect. I highly recommend it. The only thing I add is to sprinkle the salt clockwise to open, and then at the end sprinkle the remaining water/wine mixture counter clockwise to close, although you could just drink it ;-)
